Skyloom builds multi-gigabit optical communications terminals and orbital relay hardware that let satellites, including orbital data-center payloads, move large datasets between spacecraft and down to Earth without waiting for ground-station passes. It has supplied close to 90 terminals for the US Space Development Agency's Tranche programmes, giving it more flight heritage than most optical-link startups. IonQ announced its acquisition in November 2025 and closed the deal on 28 January 2026.
Ecosystem functionSupplies the laser downlink plumbing that connects orbital compute to the ground — and its sale to a quantum company shows how contested optical terminals have become.
