Sophia Space builds thin flat TILE modules roughly a metre square and a centimetre thick, pairing solar cells on one face with a passive radiator on the other so heat bleeds straight into vacuum with no pumps or coolant loops. The TILEs are designed to bolt together into modular orbital data centers managed by an autonomous operating system. It has patented the design with Caltech and had raised around $22M by mid-2026, but has not flown a TILE; its first orbital demo is scheduled on an Apex satellite in 2027.
Ecosystem functionAttacks orbital computing's real bottleneck — heat rejection — with a plumbing-free passive thermal architecture rather than shrinking terrestrial servers into a satellite.
