SpaceX has detailed AI1, an orbital compute satellite pairing data-center-class NVIDIA hardware with a roughly 150-kilowatt solar array, dedicated radiators and laser links instead of Starlink-style antennas, to be mass-produced at a planned Gigasat factory. It has filed for a very large orbital compute constellation and says it will lease capacity to external customers. No AI1 satellite had been built, tested or launched as of August 2026.
Ecosystem functionOwns launch, satellite manufacturing, laser networking and now a frontier model lab under one roof, a structural cost advantage no independent orbital startup can answer.
